So long as one is not infringing upon the rights of others, government should not interfere. However, when one's actions do, in fact, infringe upon the rights of others then it is another matter entirely. In a free society, it is appropriate to lobby for laws that protect the rights of <strong>all </strong><em>people. A law forbidding a woman to kill her child would not be infringing upon her rights - <strong>it would be protecting the child's right to life</strong>. The USA is a Republic ruled by laws. A large portion of these laws are decisive on moral issues. For example, we have laws against murder, rape and theft. At some point the morality of these behaviors was considered and they were deemed unlawful. Should we reject the criminality of those acts because with them morality is at issue? So what makes the abortion debate different? Doesn't our society have the same responsibility to weigh the morality of abortion? If not, why not?
