I agree with the "stay away from my life and don't tell me how to live." So long as one is not infringing upon the rights of others, government should not interfere. However, when one's actions do, in fact, infringe upon the rights of others then it is another matter entirely. In a free society, it is appropriate to lobby for laws that protect the rights of all people. A law forbidding a woman to kill her child would not be infringing upon her rights - it would be protecting the child's right to life. That is, after all, the crux of the pro-life movement.

It's seems like were talking on different radio frequencies.Let me rephrase.I say stay away from my life and don't tell me how to live and what to do.Of course as long as I'm not violating your rights. So if you want to give birth to your baby,go ahead. But if I don't want ,you're not telling me what to do.

Bato: For one, you don't believe that - or at least your statement betrays an opposite position. In fact, you believe that people should impose moral values and doctrines on others. I say that because your sentiment is itself an expression of your moral values and you would impose that on those who think differently. In other words, you think that people should stop imposing moral views on others and you impose that moral view upon those who disagree. So your statement excludes itself, which makes it nonsense. Don't they teach logic anymore?

What you really think is that your opinion or worldview is superior. Why didn't you just say that? My observation is that people go your route because they have insufficient support to show why they think that their opinion or worldview is superior, so they resort to illogical banter about tolerance, not imposing one's views on others, etc.

Second, the abortion debate has nothing to do with the Separation of Church and State. The USA is a Republic ruled by laws. A large portion of these laws are decisive on moral issues. For example, we have laws against murder, rape and theft. At some point the morality of these behaviors was considered and they were deemed unlawful. Should we reject the criminality of those acts because with them morality is at issue? So what makes the abortion debate different? Doesn't our society have the same responsibility to weigh the morality of abortion? If not, why not?
