Blogging Catastrophe

Yesterday, while diligently working on a research paper, I decided to take a quick break and check on the digital infrastructure of the blog. I noticed a new release of WordPress and decided to let Fantastico do the upgrading work for me. As is often the case with me and routine maintenance, something went terribly wrong and in the course of fixing it, I totally messed things up. I ended up doing a complete reinstall, and even had to restore a MySQL database backup (which my web host had thankfully made the day before). After about an hour, the blog was working again. However, I lost all the photographs and uploaded documents.

So, little by little over the next month or so I’ll be re-uploading images to their original posts. It is a considerable chore, given that there are 700 posts, dating as far back as 2005.
